Welcome to the Tucson Sunshine Chapter Home Page. This site is dedicated to provide you with comprehensive information about the Tucson Chapter, its performing organizations, and its members. It also contains information and links to the National Organization (Barbershop Harmony Society) and the Far Western District.
The Tucson Chapter of BHS (aka SPEBSQSA) has been singing and promoting barbershop harmony in Tucson for 60 years. Presently, the chapter has about 70+ members on the rolls, and has an active chorus participation of around 40 men. The chorus typically places well in Division competition. It has won its Division in previous years, and presently places in the top ten choruses. The Tucson Chapter’s chorus has an active and engaging performance schedule throughout the year. A Holiday Chorus Program brings other singers from the community to join with the chorus in performing at various holiday venues. In addition to these performances, the chorus has performed at RV parks and senior residences throughout Tucson, has been invited to perform at the annual Tucson Botanical Gardens’ Festival of Lights, and numerous other venues. In 2007, the chorus participated in the second annual Southern Arizona Holiday Barbershop Chorus performance, bringing together barbershop choruses from Casa Grande, Saddlebrooke and Tucson, and including quartets from around the region. Three performances were held, one in each of the three venues. The Chorus’ Annual Show is held in late February, and attracts several hundred patrons for matinee and evening performances. The Chapter also has a very active Youth in Harmony program, and held its first Saturday Workshop for area high school boys in October 2006 and successfully held a full day Harmony Festival in the fall of 2007. Several quartets are associated with the chorus as well who volunteer their time and talent to perform on many of the chorus’ public performances. In terms of its objectives, the Chorus is interested in continuing to improve its singing, to attract more members, to ensure that the chapter members enjoy their hobby, and to continue to ensure that Tucson enjoys a vibrant barbershop experience.

Welcome! The Tucson Sunshine Chorus is an organization devoted to singing barbershop harmony. It is all here for you: friendship, fellowship, musical harmony, opportunities for personal accomplishment and involvement, quartet singing, and many other benefits. You can view your membership as an investment: an old-time barbershop singer said that for every hour you spend singing, God gives you another hour on earth! Wow! What a payback. Whether that is true or not, no one knows. However, what we do know is that singing is a great stress reducer, it is great for deep breathing and it is in and of itself, fulfilling. It is impossible to be angry while singing. As with most activities in life, however, you have to participate to get the benefits, and if you do participate fully, you'll get back more than you put in. Welcome! Chapter Meetings and Chorus Rehearsals: Typically, the chapter meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 at Tucson Jewish Community Center.
