2007 Convention Activities

An Educational & Fun Experience!

Jumpstart Quartet Contest

Rumor has it that many of you will arrive on Thursday, so plan on a fun impromptu quartet contest on Thursday evening at the headquarters hotel. You can compete in multiple quartets, as long as you sing a different part each time. The top three quartets will win a shiny medal and our judges are our enthusiastic audience.

So, show up at the Wyndham Hotel, Salon 3, at 7:30 PM for some Jump Start Barbershop.

Things REALLY get rolling on Friday!

Activities for Friday start with the Chordatorium at 9:00 AM followed by the Harmony for Lunch Bunch at 11:30 AM Harmony for Lunch Bunch is the way to launch the weekend. Meet your many friends there and make some new ones. Join the crowd in group singing. Form a quartet and sing. Bring your quartet and perform, and the food is great, too.

  • Vocal Production is general instruction, followed by individual coaching, for several volunteers while the less adventuresome watch and learn. You’ll learn how to produce the best sound along with how your vocal apparatus really works. (Bill Pearson: 2 hours)

Track 2: Sing For Fun - Wyndham, Gila Room

  • Woodshedding is the original way barbershop was sung and you can do it, too. Our AHSOW team will demonstrate woodshedding and coach you on how to get started. Then they’ll give you the opportunity to show you can do it and join this society within a society. (AHSOW team: 1 hour)
  • Group Singing is just that. Join the group in singing for the joy of making sweet harmony. (Kristen Taylor: 1 hour)
  • Tag Singing, led by one of our popular tagmeisters, is just pure fun. And it will help tune you up for the whole weekend. (Bruce Sellnow, 1 hour)

Track 3: Performing - Wyndham, Maricopa Room

  • Late Show Quartet Sing and Share with our outgoing FWD champions. (Late Show: 1 hour)
  • Those Cussed Scores is an explanation of what the contest scores mean, by a retired certified judge. (1 hour)
  • CANCELLED What the judges are looking for prepares you to better understand the contests this weekend. This is really a One Hour Convention and Contest. Right after our three certified judges explain their jobs, we'll have one of the competing quartets sing a song and be judged. Then the judges will coach the quartet and they'll sing another song. Don't miss this fun, upbeat, head start on the weekend's contests. (1 hour)
