Neal Sisson

The Far Western District takes pride in dedicating this Spring convention to Neal Sisson, a Charter Member of the Placerville Chapter, with whom he is competing this Weekend.

Neal was born in St. Petersburg, Florida and moved to Tracy, California in 1942. Shortly after finishing high school he moved to Placerville, where he was bitten by the "barbershop" bug" while visiting the Placer County Chapter in Auburn in 1962. In addition to his first chapter, he has held membership in the Sacramento Chapter.

About one week after joining the Placerville Chapter, he was singing tenor in a quartet. While a dedicated chorus participant, Neal has always been a "Quartet Man," and to this day sing in one or more quartets. He has sung in 16 Registered Quartets, and many more that were just "spur of the moment" groups. The most notable, perhaps, was "The Carpet Baggers," who won the NorCal Novice Contest in 1968 and went on to place Fifth in District Competition in 1969.

Like fine wine, Neal just gets better with age. In Senior Quartet Competition he has sung in the District Champion Quartets in 1994 and 1995, singing with "Sentimental Favorites" and "Sixty Something." I n 1995, "Sentimental Favorites" placed Fifth in the International Senior Quartet Contest held in Tucson, Arizona. held in Tucson, Arizona. Neal is currently singing with the third version of "The Placer Minors" and they will be competing in the Senior Competition this yeas, as well.

Neal is the epitome of what a member of the Society should be. This "Golden Oldie" has served as a Board Member and has dedicated hi time and talent for the betterment of this chapter, his District, and the Society in General. He continues to spread the joy of barbershop singing wherever he goes. Neal and his bride of 47 years, Adele, are dedicated supporters of the District, especially the FWD Youth Education Fund and Youth Harmony Camp projects.

Please take time this weekend to meet and greet Neal and sign a tag or "Pole Cat" with one of the best tenor singers around. The Far Western District takes pride in honoring and recognizing Neal Sisson.
