Our Mission
To promote, improve and enjoy barbershop chorus and quartet music,
fellowship and performance to the best of our ability as a
contribution to the quality of life in our community.
Our Story
2013 is the 60th Anniversary Year of the founding of the The Channel Islands Clippers, a men's a cappella, Barbershop Chorus. Dedicated to preserving and introducing Barbershop Music to new generations, we have performed, educated and entertained throughout Ventura County. Involving men of all ages who aspire to sing "The Old Songs" better than ever before, this Chorus has become an institution in our area. Our group also helped with the start of the Conejo Harmony Oaks Chorus, which meets at Newbury Park High School in Thousand Oaks.
Participation continues providing the fun, the learning, the fun, the opportunities, and ... did we mention the FUN? ... of singing the wonderful songs of Barbershop fame.
2013 is also the 75th anniversary of the International Barbershop Harmony Society! The society is dedicated to preserving and introducing the Barbershop Style of music to new generations.
C.I.C. rehearses every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the
Wilson Senior Center 350 North C Street Oxnard, California
Men who love to sing are always welcome to stop by and check us out!
More Background
In 1938, two gentlemen from Tulsa, Oklahoma, O.C. Cash and Rupert Hall began what would first be called Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). Known today as the Barbershop Harmony Society, we have grown into an international, fraternal organization. The structure covers hundreds of chapters and thousands of members, all of whom love to sing Barbershop style — four-part voice harmonies working together to "Ring Those Chords".
