Q: "You guys don't have a chorus!? Then what do you do?"

A: All of our time is spent enjoying four part harmony in quartets. The meetings are loosely structured and appear more like an afterglow than anything else. Groups of four guys clump together around the room and they sings songs they know, woodshed songs they don't know, read music and sing new songs. The meeting is a relaxed atmosphere without risers. Some of the guys gather around tables who wish to sit while singing but most guys usually stand. This chapter format works for many guys who are tired of the chorus singing environment.

Q: "What do your organized quartets do?"

A: Some quartets show up to have a place to rehearse and work on their next performance, taking advantage of experienced coaches when they can. During the evening they have the opportunity to perform in front of the chapter for performance proficiency and enthusiastic encouragement. Occasionally we have guest clinicians come in and coach a quartet in front of the rest of the guys giving all of us a chance to learn.

Q: "Do some of your members also sing in a chorus?"

A: Sure, many of our members have dual membership in a chorus chapter. But they like to come to the quartet chapter to have more quartet singing time.

Q: "How about guests at your meetings?"

A: Guests are welcome and are treated the same as our members. Opportunities for joining 3 other guys for a fun time of quartet singing are available to all, guests and members alike.

Q: "What do you stand for? What is your mission?"

A: The Arizona Quartet Chapter is a chapter dedicated solely to the advancement of four man barbershop quartet singing. There is something about singing a barbershop chord with only three other guys that can not be duplicated in any other combination. For many men who are in the barbershop singing hobby it was just such an experience that caused them to continue to attend chapter meetings, contests and conventions. Unfortunately many of these venues do not offer enough opportunities to sing with just three other guys. This chapter seeks to give it's members more opportunities to sing in four-man quartet combinations. The chapter does not intend to form a chorus but rather, will engage in activities that will promote quartet singing.

Q: "How do you handle quartet sing-outs?"

A: Our main quartet project is the Singing Valentines Program, where we send out 3 quartets of varying members to customers all over the valley. At other times, we get requests for a quartet and contact several to arrange a booking. Sometimes we get calls from booking agents. There seems to be more demand than we can fill.
